On Monday 26 October half of Oxford Street, the busiest shopping street in Europe, will be closed to traffic. Cars, lorries, buses, taxis, scooters and even ebikes and bicycles will be banned and only pedestrians will be allowed. It is the first step in the Mayor of London’s plan to pedestrianise the entire 1.2 mile stretch of road and it comes after decades of controversy and delays.
