UK Green Building Council promotes Abdul to new role
The UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) has appointed Yetunde Abdul as director of industry transformation.
She will spearhead the council’s efforts in accelerating changes that will help industry tackle the nature and climate crises, and will align the organisation’s work on climate mitigation, resilience and nature more closely. Her remit also includes circular-economy work and solutions and innovations.
Abdul, who has 20 years’ experience, was head of climate action at UKGBC for three years. During this time, she led a series of industry-wide initiatives, including setting up the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard governance board and technical steering group.
Before joining the UKGBC, she worked at several engineering and environmental consultancies, a property investment company and for the government.
“The transition towards a truly sustainable built environment that considers resilience and nature must accelerate,” Abdul said. “To achieve this, practical actions, scalable solutions, and the cultivation of skills and knowledge are essential. Through our partnership and collaboration with our broad membership, together we can drive even greater positive transformation.”
Abdul “brings a holistic perspective on sustainability for the built environment, backed by extensive multi-disciplinary and cross-sectoral experience”, said Smith Mordak, chief executive of the UKGBC.
