Prologis starts development of life science building in UK
Logistics property specialist Prologis has started speculative development of a life science project at Cambridge Biomedical Campus in the UK.
The 103,000 sq ft (9,569 sq m) laboratory and office space will be multi-let and the scheme is targeting growing biotech and life science businesses.
The five-storey building will be situated on the southern edge of the campus at 1000 Discovery Drive.
Prologis UK announced plans to develop the building in October 2021 and said that it has since received numerous expressions of interest.
“Opportunities to lease life sciences property of this calibre that allows established and up and coming research-led businesses to, quite literally, brush shoulders with big pharma, leading academics, research scientists and experts in clinical medicine, is unprecedented in this country,” said head of life sciences Prologis UK Andrew Blevins. “We already have a strong pipeline of customer interest and are expecting more to come.”
The new building has been designed to be flexible and will provide laboratory and office space in different sizes and specifications, including open plan, laboratory and office space.
Cambridge Biomedical Campus is co-located with the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine, includes renowned hospitals such as Addenbrookes and Royal Papworth as well as facilities for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust.
The campus also includes the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cancer Research UK’s Cambridge Institute and the corporate and research headquarters for AstraZeneca and Abcam.
Prologis has already begun the design for follow-on buildings for both speculative and pre-let development.
