Real estate investors catching up as occupiers focus on ESG

Occupiers are starting to convert corporate ESG objectives into real estate strategies which plays out through their property portfolios, so investors’ increasing preoccupation with ESG is to be welcomed, according to Colliers’ head of project management, occupier services EMEA, Sam Addison.

Talking to Real Asset Insight’s Richard Betts at MIPIM recently she said: “It’s great to see that it is so high profile here this year. It’s a huge difference to pre Covid.”

After the Covid pandemic organisations have taken the opportunity to reflect and review their strategies and examine their operations, whether these are industrial or workplace, and then to overlay ESG.

She said that Covid has been an accelerator along with social headwinds and the need to attract talent.

“There are all these different dimensions, and risk as well, so yes, we’re definitely seeing ESG much more central to real estate strategy for occupiers.”
