German housing shortage will persist as construction declines

Germany’s housing shortage appears destined to continue according to research from Swiss investment manager Empira Group. The firm’s latest quarterly report indicates that in the first quarter of 2024, permits were granted for 44,137 residential units in 18,937 new residential buildings in Germany, year-on-year declines of 25% and 23% respectively.
