Expo Real: Berlin Hyp survey shows rising status of ESG
ESG issues will be more important than ever in 2022 for the entire real estate industry according to a survey conducted by German property bank Berlin Hyp during the recent three-day Expo Real event staged in Munich.
Sustainable construction projects will become particularly relevant according to 53% of respondents.
“The determination of the real estate industry to transform itself into a sustainable industry is also evident,” Berlin Hyp said in a statement.
Just over two thirds (64%) said that social care properties, such as care properties and educational institutions, will also become relevant demonstrating a trend towards more social responsibility in the sector, Berlin Hyp concluded.
And under governance issues 43% of participants said diversity within companies and management boards should be given special importance.
“ESG has been defining the public debate for a long time. It was important for us to capture the relevance of the individual issues,” said Sascha Klaus, chair of the board of management of Berlin Hyp.
“It is clear that we can only pave the way to a more sustainable and socially equitable world together as an industry. We are on the right track, but we still have a long way to go to reach our goal,” he added.
