Sama unveils plans for new PBSA scheme in Birmingham
Birmingham-based developer and investor Sama Investments has unveiled plans to transform a brownfield site which was previously Birmingham City Council’s office building into a new PBSA scheme which will include two towers.
The flagship scheme, known as Perryian Works, is at 1 Lancaster Circus, Birmingham. The two towers, including one of up to 50-storeys which will act as a focal point for the area, are on the edge of Lancaster Circus Queensway and Lawson Street.
“Our proposals for 1 Lancaster Circus will transform this under-utilised site to deliver a flagship scheme that will create a new gateway into Birmingham, whilst also supporting the wider regeneration of the area,” said Bilal Ahmed, founder and executive chairman, Sama Investments.
The proposals will support the continued growth of nearby universities, with Aston and Birmingham City University only a short walk away. The scheme could act as a new gateway to Birmingham City Centre from the Gun Quarter and Jewellery Quarter. This will be achieved through new outdoor courtyards and public open spaces, including a landscaped pedestrian corridor which will include extensive biodiverse planting and water features.
Plans also include the delivery of a dynamic variety of amenities, including active frontages which will create interest and activity at street level with retail and leisure offerings. It forms part of a vision to make the area more attractive for visitors, students and residents.
“We will deliver much-needed student accommodation to support the vibrancy of our growing universities in Birmingham,” said Ahmed. “Our plans also offer street-level community uses and green space for residents and the wider community to enjoy. This is supported by a pedestrian corridor that will connect parts of the city to this area.”
The scheme will also stimulate local economic growth and create “hundreds of jobs”, Ahmed said: “We’ve worked closely with partners to ensure this project delivers true value for the area.”
