IHG to open the first luxury branded hotel in Liverpool

Liverpool, a fast-growing tourist destination, is getting its first luxury branded hotel. IHG Hotels & Resorts is introducing its new brand Vignette Collection to the UK with the signing of The Halyard at Ropewalks.

What The Halyard at Ropewalks, Liverpool will look like

The 133-key hotel will open later this year under a franchise agreement with Molo Hotels and will be operated by Lighthouse Hotel Management. It is set in the historic Ropewalks district in the centre of Liverpool, with a restaurant, a gym, conference facilities and a roof top terrace.

“Liverpool’s popularity continues to grow as a hub of culture and I’m confident the luxury offering of Vignette Collection will bring a new offering to the city”, said Willemijn Geels, VP Development, Europe,  IHG Hotels & Resorts. “Vignette Collection gives strategic partners and owners, like Molo Hotels, the opportunity to retain their distinctive hotel identity, while benefitting from IHG’s global scale and luxury & lifestyle expertise”.

The brand has signed or opened 14 hotels across the world in its first year, including in Budapest and Porto, and plans to add more than 100 over the next ten years. Vignette Collection aims to “weave responsibility, community and locality together for stays that are as distinct as the hotels themselves” and has a commitment to more responsible travel.

Liverpool continues to grow as a destination for domestic and international travellers and the growing presence of international events, such as Eurovision 2023, alongside the growing demand for UK staycations following the pandemic, are increasing demand.

“Liverpool is a thriving market with growing demand”, said Ross Morrow, Managing Director, Molo Hotels. “We see a gap in the market to deliver luxury stays in Liverpool and we’re excited to partner with IHG Hotels & Resorts to deliver a one of a kind hotel that celebrates the history of such an important city”.
