Inditex launches new €238m Zara sales and design centre
Spanish retail giant Inditex is about to begin work on a new €238 million office building within its complex at Arteixo, north-west Spain. The 170,000 sq m (1.8 million sq ft) building will house the Zara sales and design teams and has been designed to reinforce the brand and to support its flat organisational structure, Inditex said in a statement.
The works are expected to begin this month and last approximately two years.
The five-storey building will so have two underground parking levels and has been designed by architecture firm Batlleiroig, which was also responsible for the recent expansion of other group facilities in Arteixo.
A grid of walkways will connect various parts of the new building with the adjacent buildings to ensure internal connectivity at the complex and optimal interaction between the various departments.
Next-generation facility management
The new building will have a next-generation facility management system, ensuring a continuous response to indoor and outdoor temperatures and air quality.
The building will adhere to the highest standards of sustainability and the impact of the construction process will be minimised. Extensive use of recycled materials will reduce its carbon footprint and minimise waste generation. The building will comply with the requirements of the US Green Building Council (USGBC) and Inditex hopes to achieve LEED Platinum accreditation.
The proportions and dimensions of the building provide a shape coefficient which, together with highly insulated façades and roof, will reduce energy consumption. Energy will be provided by three new wind turbines located in nearby Coruña’s Outer Port.
