Student housing metrics reveal sector’s attractions

Samuel Vetrak, founder and CEO of Bonard, a research organisation that focuses on the student accommodation market, highlights some of the sector’s key attractions.

His presentation during Real Asset Media’s Financing Opportunities in Student Housing session explained that student housing is among the top five investment sectors in a field of 23. World-wide its value grows at about $16bn per year and about 150 players enter the market annually.

Meanwhile, demand continues to outstrip supply with student numbers growing annually by 300,000 and the number of beds by only 50,000. Even in the current crisis, while not pandemic-proof it has proved to be more resilient than other asset classes and occupancy is relatively high.
