Socio-economic trends the basis for ‘investable strategies’

While many current socio-economic trends are commonly seen as problems, they can also be regarded as opportunities as Neworld Investment Management’s managing director Christian Scheuerl pointed out at MIPIM recently.

“Newworld is an investment management platform looking for niche opportunities in the alternative asset segment. Mainly we’re transforming social economic trends into investable strategies,” he said.

Scheuerl explained that the company was at MIPIM to discuss two such strategies: senior housing and medical centres.

In the senior housing sector he said the company is looking at a number of opportunities in Germany. “We have a good pipeline where we are able to execute in a short period of time.”

The increasing demand for medical centres is also partially a result of the aging population and its growing need for professionalised medical care.

“We’re not talking about hospitals, but about conglomerations of doctor’s offices and the like,” Schereul explained.

He said that for both the senior housing and medical centres strategies the company has strong partners with which it works. “We have a bunch of good investment opportunities with us and we’re looking for capital partners that are expanding into the German market and want to take care of the opportunities that we have right now.”
