Romania’s second city reveals plans to intensify metro area
Romania’s second city Iasi is vying for attention and has ambitious expansion plans for its metropolitan area. Known as the cultural capital of Romania the city has five major universities and attracts over 60,000 students each year.
“We are trying at the city hall to build an arena for the investors, to bring them in and just show them what they can do,” deputy mayor Daniel Juravale explained.
The area has huge potential he explained to Real Asset Insight’s Richard Betts. While the city itself has a population of half a million people the surrounding region contains about five million. “It’s an opportunity also for the region,” he said.
“We are trying to extend the metropolitan area,” he added. ”Basically we are trying to build more city centres, but within the metropolitan area.”
