‘Liveability’ crucial to affordable housing provision: Redevco

There is huge demand for housing in the Netherlands where there is a need for about one million new units by 2030.

“Housing in general is in really high demand, let alone affordable housing,” said Redevco portfolio director Vincent Bacas.

The company looks at affordable housing from the perspective of ‘liveability’, Bacas told Real Asset Insight at MIPIM in Cannes last week.

“If you talk about liveability, then we also look at services that we offer to make impacts for the tenants, not only in the building but the direct surroundings,” he said. This can include shared services and shared rooftops and other measures designed to create a sense of community.

“But affordability is also influenced, in some elements, by legislation,” he said, adding though that the firm regards legislation as more of a challenge than a threat.

“We’re really optimistic about residential and we continue to invest in it,” he said.
