Malmö spec build expands Verdion’s Nordic portfolio
Logistics specialist Verdion is to speculatively develop 28,000 sq m of urban logistics space in Swedish city Malmö.
Verdion has acquired a 5 ha infill site in the Fosie industrial area in the south-east quadrant of the city, close to the intersection of the E65 radial route and the E6 ring road which connects to the Oresund Bridge which links Sweden to Denmark.
In addition to warehouse space, the new facilities will include office, welfare and mezzanine areas and Verdion said there will be high levels of sustainability targeting BREEAM Excellent certification.
The company’s first project in southern Sweden was a built-to-suit facility for BMW for the distribution of automotive parts in Sweden. Verdion also secured sites in Rosersberg and Södertälje north and south of Stockholm, Gothenburg and Jӧnkӧping in the last three years. Verdion’s Nordic portfolio also includes assets in Greater Copenhagen and Jutland.
“Securing brownfield assets for urban logistics is a key part of our growth strategy in the Nordics, and this was an attractive opportunity close to Malmö’s consumers and transport network,” said Verdion investment manager Fredrik Salman. “The Öresund Region is the largest consumer market in the Nordics and given the established location and current levels of demand, we expect good interest ahead of completion.”
