Commerz Real impact fund debuts on French power scene

Commerz Real has acquired a wind farm in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of south west France from BayWa for its Klimavest impact fund.
Acquisition of the wind farm, known as Tout Vent, heralds Klimavest’s entry to the French electricity market. Commerz Real said in a statement that additional purchases of wind farms and solar parks in France are planned.
BayWa had agreed a 20-year state feed-in prior to the sale. Tout Vent was connected to the national grid in August 2021 and comprises six turbines with a total installed capacity of 18 MW. The planned annual energy production of about 59,300 MWh would be able to meet the average annual energy consumption of more than 11,000 French households and will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 6,700 tonnes per year. BayWa remains responsible for the operational management of the wind farm.
“We are tapping important investment opportunities for our investors and further diversifying our portfolio,” said Klimavest fund manager Timo Werner,
Commerz Real launched Klimavest in November 2020 and to date it is the only impact fund focusing on real assets for private investors, the company claims.
The fund will build a portfolio of renewable energy generation plants as well as sustainable infrastructure, mobility and forestry with a value of at least €25 billion, including €10 billion in the equity capital.
