A vote of confidence in London: that is how British Land described JLL’s decision to choose 1 Broadgate in the City as its new headquarters.

The real estate company has agreed a 15-year lease for 134,000 sq ft, which represents nearly a third of all the office space available in the new building. JLL will move in when British Land’s 32-acre campus in the City will be completed in 2025.

JLL’s new flagship UK office, on the three floors, shows the important role that office space will play in its future operations, the group said.

“Throughout this unprecedented time we have worked closely with clients and our own people to develop and evolve workplace strategies”, said Stephanie Hyde, CEO UK & Ireland, JLL. “1 Broadgate will be central to our plan as we recognise the importance that offices play in collaboration, innovation and fostering culture and wellbeing”.

JLL’s decision to move into 1 Broadgate also reflects their net zero carbon ambitions, which align with British Land’s goals. The new campus has 546,000 sq ft of sustainable mixed-use space, including 498,000 sq ft of office space, 48,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space and 47,000 sq ft of roof terraces.

“Working in partnership with British Land, we have a real opportunity to achieve one of the most sustainable and technologically advanced workplaces in the UK”, said Hyde. “The campus excels in the connectivity and amenities, providing our people and clients with a vibrant, dynamic and collaborative space. 1 Broadgate will enable us to significantly push the boundaries to enhance productivity, improve wellbeing and support a wider community through British Land’s approach to managing the Broadgate campus and its Community Framework.”

JLL and British Land will work in partnership to deliver a sustainable workspace that aims to “push the boundaries for corporate real estate” in central London and the wider industry.

1 Broadgate is being designed to meet the requirements of UKGBC Net Zero Carbon Buildings framework and is targeting highest level of BREEAM and WELL certification.

“We are thrilled that JLL has chosen this fantastic building for its new UK flagship office,” said Simon Carter, CEO, British Land. “The move is a real vote of confidence in London, a further endorsement of our campus strategy and of Broadgate’s status as a world class, mixed use destination.”
