Investment resumes post-covid but with differences

Europe’s vaccine rollouts are encouraging activity among real estate investors according to Nick Axford, Avison Young’s global director of research.

Axford said that rather than sitting and waiting, people are starting to firm up plans. While ultra-low interest rates will not last forever, they are still at rock bottom and there remain compelling reasons to look at real estate so we can expect more flows into the sector and even further yield compression, he told Real Asset Media’s Richard Betts.

But while, for instance, “beds, sheds and meds” are good places to have invested in the last couple of years, Axford does not believe that investing in those sectors or offices are mutually exclusive decisioins. “There are all sorts of nuances and trends, even within the core offices sector.”

“People are going to be focused not on whether you should be in offices, it is where and how much, and how those flows are going to impact the market.”
