Increase of mixed use assists push to greater sustainability

“Retail destinations are increasingly evolving into mixed-use communities,” according to Erwin Buckers, CEO of Netherlands-based Chainels. The proptech company has devised an eponymous app that promotes community by enabling landlords and operators to generate a dialogue with tenants.

Where there is retail with apartments in the storeys above, communities are being created, Buckers said. “They want to support local spending in a kind of vertical city,” he explained, adding that this phenomenon in line with sustainability and ESG goals.

Buckers added that as the health crisis subsides, “facilities are reopening, budgets are being unfrozen and money is also going back into innovation and digitalisation.”
